João Fonseca enters Wimbledon as the 24th seed with a draw that starts manageable and gets heavier round by round. Three names wait on the horizon: Andrey Rublev in the third round, Novak Djokovic in the fourth, and Jannik Sinner as a possible semifinal opponent.

First and second rounds: navigable terrain

Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut opens the Brazilian’s campaign on Tuesday, June 30. It’s an opening test that requires focus, not miracles.

If he advances, Fonseca meets the winner of Jesper de Jong (Netherlands) or Rinky Hijikata (Australia) in the second round. Both are unseeded players with less Grand Slam experience. So far, the path is what analysts would call “a good part of the draw.”

Third round: Rublev

From the third round onward, the draw changes tone. Andrey Rublev, the 12th seed, is positioned directly in Fonseca’s side and is the natural candidate for that match. The Russian won Hamburg and Madrid this season and arrives on grass as one of the circuit’s most consistent players outside the big favorites.

Fourth round: Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, the seventh seed and seven-time champion at Church Road, is in the same section of the draw. If both advance, the clash happens in the fourth round.

A match against Djokovic at Wimbledon, in the fourth round, would be the biggest game of Fonseca’s career so far. The draw did not spare the Brazilian.

Quarterfinals and semifinal

In the quarterfinal, Fonseca’s path likely crosses with the side where Daniil Medvedev (eighth seed) and Félix Auger-Aliassime (third seed) are. Neither is easy. If he overcomes that barrier, Jannik Sinner — world number 1 and title favorite — awaits in the semifinal.

The Wimbledon main draw begins on June 29. Fonseca’s first match has no confirmed time but should happen within the first 48 hours of the tournament.
