Hubert Hurkacz dropped the opening set and then won three straight to eliminate Tommy Paul 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the second round at Wimbledon, securing a place in the third round.

Paul controlled the pace from the outset, exploited early Hurkacz errors and closed the first set without trouble. The Polish player steadied in the second set, won the tiebreak and began to dictate exchanges from the baseline.

Hurkacz carried that momentum into the third set, taking it 7-5, and then pulled away in the fourth. Paul could not mount meaningful resistance as the match closed 6-2, giving Hurkacz a commanding finish after the slow start.

Hurkacz’s third-round opponent will emerge from a seeded matchup; the date of that match has not yet been confirmed.
