Beatriz Haddad Maia
@BiaHaddadMaia ↗Beatriz Haddad Maia is Brazil’s leading tennis player today and the highest-ranked Brazilian woman in the history of the sport. Born in São Paulo on May 30, 1996, Haddad Maia turned professional in 2012 and built a career of steady progress, interrupted by a doping suspension between 2018 and 2019 that was later overturned and closed.
The defining turn in her career came in 2022, when she cracked the top 20 for the first time and won back-to-back WTA titles on the same day in Nottingham and Birmingham. In 2023, she reached the top 10 and advanced to the semifinals of Roland Garros — the best Grand Slam result by a Brazilian woman in the modern era.
A tall left-hander, Haddad Maia is known for a heavily spun serve, versatile clay-court play and sharp tactical reading of the game. She has also delivered consistent results on hard courts and grass, making her one of the tour’s most complete players.
In 2026, she remains inside the top 20 and is a fixture at the SP Open, the tournament held in São Paulo where she represents Brazil on home soil.
