João Fonseca
@joaofonsecatennis ↗João Fonseca is the leading figure of his generation in Brazilian men’s tennis. Born on May 28, 2006, in Rio de Janeiro, he turned professional in 2023 and broke into the ATP top 100 by the end of that year after a meteoric run through the junior ranks.
In 2024, he won the US Open junior title, cementing his status as one of the top prospects in world tennis. In 2025, he began beating top-20 players on the main tour, posting strong results at ATP 250 and 500 events.
In 2026, he played Roland Garros as a seeded player and reached the quarterfinals, the best result by a Brazilian in Paris in decades. He also won the doubles title at the Rio Open alongside Marcelo Melo.
Fonseca stands out for his powerful serve, aggressive forehand and the ability to play high-risk tennis at key moments. His backhand and stamina in extended rallies remain works in progress — areas he and his team are addressing as he transitions between clay and grass.
