Arthur Gea claimed his maiden ATP title at the Los Cabos 250, defeating defending champion Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s final.
The Frenchman needed one hour and 29 minutes to seal the victory on the hard courts of Los Cabos, Mexico. The win made him the youngest champion in the tournament’s history, according to TenisBrasil.
Shapovalov had been seeking back-to-back titles at the event. The Canadian had reached the final by defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie in three sets in the semifinal.
The result marks Gea’s breakthrough at the ATP level, with the 20-year-old converting his opportunity against an experienced opponent who had previously lifted the trophy in Los Cabos.
