Roman Burruchaga defeated seventh seed Camilo Carabelli 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 on Thursday to advance to the Umag Open semifinals, where he will face Spain’s Daniel Merida.

The Argentine needed one hour and 50 minutes to overcome his compatriot on the Croatian clay. After taking the opening set comfortably, he dropped the second before regaining control to close out the match in the third.

Burruchaga’s semifinal opponent reached the last four after defeating Titouan Droguet in the quarterfinals, according to ATP Tour highlights.

The result marks another setback for Carabelli, the tournament’s seventh seed, while Burruchaga continues an unexpected run at the ATP 250 event. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was also eliminated from the tournament, as reported by TenisBrasil.

Burruchaga will face Merida in the semifinals of the Umag Open, an ATP 250 clay-court tournament held in Croatia that serves as one of the final warm-up events before the North American hard-court swing.
