The world No. 4 faced a tougher test in the second set after cruising through the opener, according to TenisBrasil. Day, ranked 131st and a left-hander, pushed the match to 7-5 before the higher-ranked player closed it out in straight sets.
Gauff is seeking her first title of the 2026 season and her first-ever crown at the Canadian WTA 1000 event. She advanced to the third round with the victory.
