Pegula rallies past Frech in Washington opener to face Kalinskaya
Top seed Jessica Pegula came from behind to defeat Magdalena Frech in three sets in her opening match at the WTA 500 in Washington.
World number three Jessica Pegula needed three sets to advance past her first opponent at the Washington tournament. The top-seeded American dropped the opening set to Poland’s Magdalena Frech, ranked 48th, before turning the match around.
Pegula secured victory with set scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, according to TenisBrasil. The match was played in the Round of 16 stage of the event.
The American will face Anna Kalinskaya in the next round as she continues her campaign in the U.S. capital.
