Pigossi and Wild fall in first round at Contrexéville and Braunschweig
Laura Pigossi lost 6-2, 6-1 to Argentina's Carle at the WTA 125 in France; Thiago Wild, through qualifying, fell 6-4, 6-3 to seventh-seeded Czech Svrcina at the ATP Challenger in Germany.
Laura Pigossi and Thiago Wild each exited in the first round of European clay-court tournaments this week, neither winning a set.
Pigossi, ranked 240th in the world, won just three games against Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle in the opening round of the WTA 125 in Contrexéville, France. Carle closed out the match 6-2, 6-1 in 1 hour 21 minutes.
Wild exits after advancing through qualifying
In Braunschweig, Wild had to come through qualifying to reach the main draw of the ATP Challenger. The reward was brief: seventh-seeded Czech Dalibor Svrcina defeated the 112th-ranked Brazilian 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the second round.
Both players are scheduled to continue on the European clay swing at their next tournaments on the calendar.
