Matheus Pucinelli defeated Argentina’s Hernán Casanova 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in 2 hours and 42 minutes Sunday to claim the Quito Challenger trophy — his second career Challenger title.
The São Paulo native dropped the opening set before taking control. Pucinelli, 25 and ranked 409th on the ATP Tour, dominated the second and third sets with growing command. Casanova — 32, ranked 409th — never recovered the level that earned him the first set.
Second Challenger Title Bolsters Ranking Push
The Quito title adds 250 ATP ranking points to Pucinelli’s tally, lifting him in the standings when the next update is published. It reinforces his progression on the professional circuit, where his previous Challenger title had already marked him as a player trending upward.
Pucinelli’s next tournament has not yet been confirmed on the schedule released by TenisBrasil.
