Thiago Monteiro defeated Russia’s Ivan Gakhov in three sets on Sunday to advance in the Hagen Challenger qualifying draw in Germany.

The Brazilian, ranked 303rd, overcame Gakhov, who is ranked 459th. Monteiro came back from a set down to win 6/7 (2-7), 6/4, 6/4 on clay courts. The match lasted two hours and forty minutes.

According to TenisBrasil, the 30-year-old had lost their only previous meeting. He is the only Brazilian in the Hagen Challenger.
