Barbora Krejcikova defeated Viktoriya Tomova 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the WTA 250 Athens event, returning to hard courts after her Wimbledon run.

The Czech converted her solid grass-court form into an opening victory on hard courts in Greece. She needed one hour and 19 minutes to close out the match against the Bulgarian.

Both players showed inconsistency on serve. The former Wimbledon round-of-16 finisher will seek to build momentum during the summer hard-court season in Athens.

Krejcikova faces a second-round opponent to be determined.
