Lorenzo Musetti advanced in his comeback at the Washington ATP 500 after Matteo Arnaldi retired during their first-round match.
The 15th-ranked Italian had been sidelined from Roland Garros and Wimbledon due to injuries, according to TenisBrasil. He was leading the all-Italian encounter 6/0, 3/1 when his compatriot withdrew from the contest.
Taylor Fritz also moved into the second round with a first-round victory at the ATP 500 event in the United States capital.
