Top-ranked Siniakova and Townsend exit Wimbledon quarters, boosting Stefani
The world's top-ranked doubles pair falls in quarterfinals, opening a path for Stefani and Dabrowski to gain ground in the rankings.
Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, the world’s top-ranked doubles pair, were eliminated in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The Czech-American duo held both the top position in the overall season rankings and the top two spots in the individual doubles rankings heading into the tournament.
Their early exit opens the door for rivals further down the standings to close the gap at the top. Luísa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski are best positioned to capitalize—they have already advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals. With the leaders out of contention for points at the All England Club, Stefani moves closer in the race for the doubles ranking summit.
