Stefani reaches first Grand Slam final with Dabrowski at Wimbledon
Luísa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski defeat Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-Shuo to reach the Wimbledon women's doubles final.
Luísa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski defeated Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-Shuo 7-5, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon women’s doubles final.
The Brazilian-Canadian pair converted their fifth attempt at a Grand Slam semifinal, according to TenisBrasil. Stefani had fallen short in four previous semifinal appearances at major tournaments.
The victory extends a breakthrough fortnight for the Brazilian, who had already secured a career-high ranking and entry into the world’s top five by reaching the last four. The semifinal proved closely contested, with the opening set requiring a 7-5 margin before the pair closed out the match 6-3.
The final marks a rare Brazilian presence in a Wimbledon championship match. The country’s tennis players have claimed only 10 titles at the All England Club throughout history, making the surface the nation’s least productive among Grand Slam venues.
Stefani and Dabrowski will face the winner of the remaining semifinal for the trophy.
