Eala rallies past Zheng to reach Washington last 16
Alexandra Eala came from a set down to defeat Qinwen Zheng in the first round of the WTA 500 Washington event.
The match lasted two hours and 28 minutes. Eala lost the opening set before recovering to take the next two and secure her place in the round of 16.
According to ESPN Tennis, this was Eala’s first career victory over Zheng. The pair had met once before, at the 2023 Asian Games, where Zheng won.
Eala, ranked 28th in the world, will next face Canadian Leylah Fernandez for a place in the quarterfinals.
