Thiago Seyboth Wild defeated Argentine Gonzalo Villanueva 6-2, 6-2 in the Piracicaba Challenger final Sunday at Clube Cristóvão Colombo, capturing his sixth ATP Challenger title and his first on Brazilian soil.

The match lasted 76 minutes. Wild controlled both sets from the opening games, taking the lead in each and closing them with identical scorelines while preventing Villanueva from establishing any rhythm.

The victory carries added significance: all five of Wild’s previous Challenger titles had come outside Brazil. Playing before a home crowd on clay — the surface on which he has produced his best results — he closed that gap in his career résumé. The win adds 50 ATP ranking points and US$9,500 in prize money.

Now in its fourth edition, the Piracicaba International Tennis Cup has established the city as a fixture on the Challenger Tour calendar in Brazil. Wild’s next tournament appearance has not yet been announced.
