Alexander Zverev defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in the Wimbledon quarterfinals Wednesday, reaching his first semifinal at the All England Club and ending a seven-match losing streak against the American in 1 hour 59 minutes.

Zverev has not dropped a set throughout his Wimbledon campaign. In the third set he broke all three of Fritz’s service games and closed out the match 6-2, with the American offering little resistance down the stretch.

End of a seven-match skid

Fritz had won all seven of their previous meetings. The German reversed that run on grass — the surface where he has historically struggled more than on clay or hard courts — to seal a place in the final four.

The victory is Zverev’s 12th Grand Slam semifinal, and his first at Wimbledon; all 11 previous appearances at that stage came at other majors. His semifinal opponent will be determined by the remaining quarterfinals, scheduled for Thursday.
